Read your own PDFs
Add a PDF from your device — or send one straight to Shelfgoal from any app with “Open with”. Title, page count and cover are read from the file.
Shelfgoal is a reading tracker that is also the reader. Add your own PDFs, and your progress, sessions and pace are measured as you read — privately, on your device, with nothing uploaded anywhere.
Android · phone and tablet. PDF for now; more formats later.
Features
Shelfgoal is the reader and the tracker in one, so progress is measured rather than self-reported — and the reading itself is the part that got the most attention.

In page mode the leaf rotates on the spine as you drag, tracking your finger rather than playing a canned animation once you let go. Or read as one continuous scroll.
The clock starts when you open a book and stops when you leave. Pages, minutes and pace are recorded without you logging anything — and an idle guard stops a forgotten app inflating your stats.
Notes, quotes, questions and ideas, each attached to the page you were on. Tap one to jump straight back. Search across every note in every book.
Books a year, minutes a day, pages a day. Live rings, pace against target, and a streak with a grace day so one bad evening does not undo a month.
A year heatmap, pages and minutes over time, average session length, and the hour of day you actually read most.
Silence notifications while a book is open and get them back the moment you leave. Paper, sepia and night reading modes, plus rotation lock scoped to the reader.
One pane on a phone, two on a tablet. Landscape throughout, dynamic type respected, and every animation degrades to a fade when you ask the system to reduce motion.
Privacy by design
There is no server to hold your library, so there is nothing to leak, sell or subpoena. Your books, notes and reading history live in one database on your phone — and the ads that keep the app free never get to see any of it.
No account needed. Open the app and read. Registering is optional, unlocks nothing, and attaches none of your library to it.
No upload. Books are copied into the app’s own storage on your device. They are never sent anywhere.
No analytics, no trackers. No usage statistics, no crash reporting, no attribution SDK. The free version shows ads — that is the only thing in the app watching anything, and it never sees your books.
Your data, exportable. Export everything to JSON, or your notes to Markdown, whenever you want. Wipe it all in two taps.
How it works
Pick a PDF with the system file picker, or share one to Shelfgoal from Files, Drive or your browser.
Progress, session length and reading pace are recorded while you read. Nothing to start or stop.
Goals, streaks and stats build themselves out of what you actually read — not what you say you read.
Shelfgoal is in the final stretch before release. The library, reader, notes, goals and stats are all built and working.
