Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of the Shelfgoal app and this website. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the app.
1. Who we are
“Shelfgoal”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Shelfgoal, publisher of the Shelfgoal mobile application (app.shelfgoal.shelfgoal) and this website. “You” refers to the person using them.
2. Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Shelfgoal on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial reading.
You may not:
- copy, sell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the app;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction;
- remove or obscure any proprietary notice, branding or attribution;
- use the app to break any law that applies to you.
3. The optional account
Shelfgoal reads and tracks entirely on your device. There is no sync and no content server, so no outage of ours can prevent you from opening your library.
You may optionally register an account with an email address and password, handled by Google Firebase Authentication. It is not required, it unlocks no feature, and nothing in your library is attached to it — see the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. We may suspend or delete an account used unlawfully or to abuse the service; doing so does not touch the books, notes or reading history on your device. You can ask us to delete your account at any time by writing to mustafasidhpuri13@gmail.com.
4. Your content and your responsibility
You supply the books. You keep every right you already hold in the files you add and in the notes you write. We claim no ownership, licence or interest in them, and we never receive them — they stay on your device.
You are solely responsible for the files you import. By adding a file you confirm that you own it, have licensed it, or are otherwise legally entitled to hold and read it. Because the files never reach us, we cannot review, verify, filter or remove them, and we accept no responsibility for their content or for your right to possess them. See the Content & Moderation Policy.
5. Our intellectual property
The app’s software, interface, design, artwork, name and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you. Third-party open-source components remain under their own licences, which are listed in the app.
6. Your data is your responsibility to keep
Your library lives on your device. Deleting the app, wiping the device, or losing it will take your reading data with it, and we hold no copy that could be restored — by design, as set out in the Privacy Policy.
Use Settings → Export data to keep your own backup, and keep your device backup enabled if you want the operating system to include the app.
7. Updates and availability
We may release updates that change, add or remove features. We may also discontinue the app. Where a change would remove a significant feature, we will say so in the release notes. Updates are delivered by your app store under its own terms; an installed copy keeps working whether or not we release another one.
8. Price, advertising and purchases
Shelfgoal is free to download and is supported by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdMob as a banner, an occasional full-screen interstitial, and a screen shown when the app opens. What AdMob collects is set out in the Privacy Policy.
One optional one-time in-app purchase removes the full-screen ads. It is not a subscription, and the small banner remains — buying it does not make the app ad-free. The price is shown by your app store before you confirm.
Payment is taken and held entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never see your payment details. Refunds are the store’s to give, under the store’s own refund policy, not ours; ask them first, and write to us if that goes nowhere. A purchase is tied to the store account that made it, and restoring it on a new device is done through that store.
We may change the price, change what the purchase covers, or stop offering it. A change never revokes a purchase you have already made.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will render every PDF correctly — PDF is a broad format and some files use features no reader supports fully.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the app — including loss of a reading library or reading history.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 10.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the app in breach of these terms or of any applicable law, including any claim relating to files you import.
12. Termination
This licence ends when you uninstall the app. We may terminate it if you materially breach these terms, in which case you must stop using the app and remove it. Sections 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 13 survive termination.
13. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The current version is always published here with a “last updated” date, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — without depriving you of any protection given by the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
15. General
If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remain in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Content & Moderation Policy, are the entire agreement between us regarding the app.
